NECH ŽIJE LES !  /   LONG LIVE THE FOREST!

Mobility of Slovaks to Norway

Mobility of Slovak students, school management and teachers to Norway

5th – 12th May 2015

This project is supported by EEA GRANTS, with coo finance from the Slovak Republic.

The project name: Nech žije les! / Long live the Forest!  - EEA/EHP

Project Number: SK06-V-01-005

From 5th till 12th April 2015 there were 8 students, 3 teachers and 3 school management persons from SOŠ služieb a lesníctva Banská Štiavnica Slovakia visiting Norwegian school and Norway.

Slovak group started the mobility to Norway on 5th May. This journey was full of expectations and also some fears, as majority of our students were travelling by plane for the first time in their life.

All the participants have got the possibility to explore the natural and cultural heritage of Norway. We went across the country from the point 2 meters above the sea level in Flam - by the fjord, across the 2 thousand meters high mountains in Rondane NP, to the eastern part of Norway, almost at the Swedish border.

Our program was demanding but full of educational excursions and we have learnt a lot of new and interesting things. We experienced the top nature, culture and tourist attractions.  We have gained a lot of skills – practised English language on daily basis, prepared the presentation about the Slovakia, experienced different culture and customs. We could experience in a reality what we have learnt from presentations and distance learning.

The flight from Vienna via Oslo to Bergen(the UNESCO town at the west coast) arrived in the afternoon. We met our Norwegian friend – teacher from Sonsterud School.

We were amazed by the seaside, wooden houses built in 18th century according the 11th century Hansa merchant’s style. We have seen Fish market and Aquarium. We learnt about the marine ecosystem....

By Flam railway, one of the most beautiful railways in the world, we went from the Myrdal, 866m.a.s.l., snow, across the mountains, rivers, fjords, tunnels, waterfalls – to the Flam – just 2 meters above the sea level, blooming cherries.

In Flam we were exploring the fjord Sognefjord(UNESCO) with Safari fjord. By fast rib boats we went close to the fjord fauna and flora, exploring waterfalls, seals,... In the afternoon we went to the Stegastein view point to see the beauties of the Fjord from the sky perspective. We have learnt a lot about the Norwegian tourism and nature protection.

From the western coast we travelled by train to the east, to Lillehammer (Olympic Games 1994). From there by Sonsterud school car to the visitor’s centre of Rondane National Park and Folldal mines. We get know the National Park rules - very different from the rules in Slovak NP, unfortunately for Slovakia. We explored the mountains terrain above the tree line, the moss and lichens flora ... The Rondane NP is the only place with wild hordes of reindeers. We haven’t seen one J The explanations about the eco-topics by our guide and park ranger Morten was very interesting.

On Sunday we went to explore the museums “peninsula” in Oslo. Our guides were the deputy of Sonsterud School and her daughter Mary. We have seen the Viking museum, Thor Heyerdahl - Kon-Tiki and polar expedition - Fram museum. Then we went to sightseeing tour in the city centre, Kings Palace, Parliament, Mayor House, modern Opera house. We tried to travel by metro (many of us for the first time) to Holmenkollen ski jump Olympic stadium.

Next day – Monday we went for the excursion at Sonsterud school. It was very interesting and motivating. We compared our school styles and were really jealous about the final exams systemJ

We prepared the presentation and quiz for Norwegian students.

In the afternoon we went to Elverum nature museum. In the evening, the Norwegian school prepared the cultural program with traditional music and dance. It was very beautiful! Just it is a pity; there are no young people or students involved in this type of activities.

This mobility was full of new knowledge, skills and unforgettable experiences.

We would like to thank for this unique possibility.

We believe, we have fulfilled the aims of the project and mobility. We are looking forward to next cooperation.
